Refurbished Xbox 360s...

Truthfully, I wouldn't trust getting a refurbished system anymore than a used one.

Also, the Pro model(standard), is still at the $350 price, but it DOES come packed with two good games now: Marvel: Ultimate Alliance and Forza 2. So you are getting a bit more for your money with that than previously.

If you want an Xbox 360 - buy a new one if you can. I wouldn't wait. This is the Xmas where the 360 clearly rules the roost in terms of the number of hot games. In terms of game availability - it's really not even close his year: Dead Rising, GoW, Halo 3, The Orange Box, Assassin's Creed, CoD 3 and 4, Mass Effect, GH III, Rock Band, Madden and FiFa and literally a slew of other titles. These are cream of the crop games.

I will say this: I got both a 360 and a Wii last year. The 360 sees heavy use - the Wii does not. That says it all. I'm waiting for the ultimate Star Wars game where the light sabre on the Wii controller makes me a totally happy camper. That hasn't happened yet though.

Getting a new 360 is worth it. It just is.

That does not mean the Wii isn't fun - and very entertaining for some multi-player casual games. But it's not in the same league as the 360 - and it's not even close.

I may pick up a PS3 much later this year mainly for the Blu-Ray player and just so I have one for some pesky exclusive titles that deserve to be played. (Ratchet and Clank, I'm looking at you).

Go get a 360. You'll be happy that you did.

However, it's hard to know if you are getting one.

If you're buying a Pro, it may be tricky, but if you get an Elite with the two games, or the Arcade, I can't imagine they're old, since both just released not too long ago.

That's the package that tempts me, but my wife would kill me. I'd rather save up and get an HD setup first, then maybe got a 360.

That does have an harddrive though, right? And is it wireless?

Yep, and most of them also now have an HDMI-port, though they don't come with a cable.

Its technically the 'standard' model.

Actually, the Elite isn't the one that comes with the two games. Its the Pro, or Premium, or Standard, or whatever the hell they're calling it this week. :)

Well, I bit the bullet on a new one, thanks to the Paypal 20% cash back deal. It caps out at $50, but still, it's basically $300. And ordering online, there's no tax, either.

Unfortunately, I couldn't get the two free games (which is a shame, since I really wanted Forza 2). Of the participating stores in the 20% back, I think only Newegg carried the bundle (maybe Dell, too), but they won't ship to PO box and only will ship to the verified paypal location (which is a PO Box).

So I went with Overtstock.com, since they had $3 shipping. They also don't ship to PO Boxes for some reason (despite using US Mail), but they didn't complain about my address. Hopefully it goes through.

Jeez.

People yell at Sony for so many different models but MS is almost as bad. :p

Actually, MS has only had three "real" models. Cheap, Normal, Overpriced. They're all the same console at any given time. (Sure, the HDMI was added at some point, but that was across the board.) So at any given time you can generally get the same thing...

Compared to the PS3 situation it's a bit different. If they just changed HD capacity it wouldn't be so bad, but removing backwards compatibility and changing the number of connections and such is odd.

What I mean is, each new PS3 is a different motherboard and case and everything basically, it seems odd from a manufacturing standpoint.
