Regeneration of decapitation

I always figured that when a troll regrew its head, it lost its memories, but since trolls are pretty stupid anyway, its friends wouldn't really notice...

If it were some sort of PC with a regeneration ability, I would definately say that they body regrew from the head, or else not let them regenerate.

Well, it would suck if every part you ahcked off of a troll regenerated, then you would a have a whole heapin mess of thema fter a fight, jsut imagin alll the blood cells evey where...
/me goes crossed eyed...

I remember a Dwarf fighter who used to carry around a leg o' troll in his backpack. Slice a couple of steaks off each night, and sear the end to slow down the regeneration...

Claimed it beat carrying trail rations.

I wouldn't imagine many people other than a dwarf fighter would find that appetizing. But then I'm the guy who sent my hapless wizard hunting squirrels with Magic Missile.

The elven Monk I DM eats them raw... :-\

Even though, for a while, she was a were-squirrel herself.

That's just wrong.

How would the finger know if the rest of the body was obliterated?
You're asking for a logical answer to a question about a creature that can walk around with no head?

Simple answer: the rules say so and it makes a cool monster.

Here's a house rule that could work: treat decapitation as Death by Massive Damage. Make an appropriate Fortitude roll. Success means it can regenerate, failure means it bit the big one permanantly. Keeps your players on their toes. ;)
