Hey everyone,

I'm going to take the plung this year and go to GENCON. Can anyone give me any info on when pre-registration will strart? What is the best way to do that? Web, mail, phone?

I'm new to this, so be gentle...

Web. Definitely. I'm not even sure you *can* register any other way anymore. (Edit: just checked the GenCon site; online is now the *only* way to preregister.)

Early registration (for badges and hotel rooms) hasn't been announced yet, but, IIRC, in the past, it usually starts in February. There's usually a big crunch to register for badges right away, because you can only reserve your hotel room after you get your badge, and a lot of folks want the hotel rooms close to the convention center.

Event registration happens much later, probably in May or June at the earliest.

Usually GenCon LLC reserves large swaths of rooms at discounted prices for the attendees. That's not to say that if your business has deals or partnerships with the hotels that you can't get better prices, but you won't get a discount otherwise.

Exactly. You can't get the GenCon rate without having first purchased a badge.

Good information. My friends and I are also planning to attend our first GenCon this year and were already looking at getting hotel room reservations. Didn't know anything about the discounted rates (what I get for letting a friend research the trip instead of doing it myself).

Call for Submissions: 40 Years of Gen Con

Pre-Registration Opens at Noon (PST) Sunday, February 11, 2007!

It all began 40 years ago and it’s been building ever since. We couldn’t have done it without you, so please join us for the 40th Anniversary of Gen Con this August 16-19, 2007 at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Badge registration goes live at noon (PST) on Sunday, February 11, 2007. That’s right on a Sunday! We’ve received feedback that opening registration on a weekday as we’ve traditionally done is challenging for people because of work schedules, so both IT and Customer Service have adjusted their schedules so they will be here to assist on Sunday when registration opens.

4-Day Badge Pre-Reg: $65 Onsite: $75

1-Day Badge Pre-Reg: $35 Onsite: $45

This year we’ll have all of the usual stuff you’ve come to expect at Gen Con from a massive exhibit hall filled with vendors of all kinds, to RPG’s, TCG’s, Media and Industry Guests of Honor, the Costume Contest, True Dungeon as well as special programming, events, guests and parties to commemorate the 40th Anniversary! It’s all a part of why Gen Con has been the best four days in gaming for four decades.
