Reincarnating as a Pixie

Spatzimaus, I agree with you in spirit. I agree that abuses should be limited, but I think there are other ways to do it.

As a DM, I always roll the reincarnate, so no one will ever get a form that makes them useless or overpowered, at least on the first try. This isn't cheating, it is the DM keeping balance. If the player wants to die 3 times to get some form, I WILL apply ECL, as well as level loss. In an APL 10 party, a rogue could then get reincarnated as a pixie if he tried 3 or 4 times. He is still about where he was before, just different. Different is fine, I just don't want to see broken (pixie rogue) or useless (lepard wizard).

Reincarnate should have a little note attached for all DMs: "Use with care."

Or simply, "Don't use at all." ;-)

It doesn't fit the flavor of a lot of campaigns and it is almost always a balance problem. Now suddenly I wonder if it will change a lot in 3.5E. Hmmm.

I think LokiDR's answer is a good one.

Applying ECL mods doesn't work, because, by necessity, ECL calculations assume a near optimal choice of class and combat style to match the race.

Another option is for the DM to choose a race that fits the personlity of the PC.

Ooo, I like that.

PC 1: Are you bringing him back?
Druid: We need his help
PC 1: I suppose, but he was always so onnery. Like some old bear that just woke up from winter.
*poof*
PC 2: What the?!? I'm hairy!
Druid: There's karma for you.
