Hello

I apologise as this has probably been asked a squillion times, but do we have an ETA on the release date for Next?

Thanks all.

July for the starter set, August (likely Gen Con) for the Player's Handbook, based on entries and Barnes & Noble which have since been removed from public view.

July 15th there should be a "starter set", which probably won't have all the classes or go up to higher levels.

After that the official launch seems to be at GEN CON where people attending can buy it, then the rest of the world gets it August 19th.

Thanks all, not long to wait then!

I love d&d, I've messed around with countless other rpgs, but I always come back to my roots, and 5ed is starting to make some lovely sounds imho.

What about these items on rpgnow.com

Vault of the Dracolich
Ghosts of Dragonspear Castle
Dreams of the Red Wizards

(Sorry, I am not allowed to post links until I've accrued 10 posts)

I'm not sure what the above are

Do the game rules change between each game as they are released?

Will they allow us to play (albeit in a limited way) the game?

Scourge of the Sword Coast at least includes a snapshot of the latest playtest rules. I believe the other adventures available online also include the playtest rules in some form.

Ghosts of Dragonspear Castle has the rules that came with Scourge of the Sword Coast.

So far, the most significantly out-of-date part of those playtest rules is the bard class.

Vault of the Dracolich
Ghosts of Dragonspear Castle
Dreams of the Red Wizards

I'm not sure what the last one is, but the Vault of the Dracolich is a public play adventure. It was designed to be a "one shot" adventure that is run over several tables with different objectives to complete the final end goal. Basically multiple tables work together. This adventure does not have any rules in it, so you can basically use any version of the play-test packets (I recommend the final one). It might have some beastiary in it, that i would check with the latest beastiary to maintain consistency. You might have to plug in the more recent math, but other than that, should be fine to run.

Ghost of Dragonspear Castle has a set of rules in it, but again you can just use the most recent rules and beastiary and you will be fine.

You can play any of these adventures and play the game.

The play test packet also contains a D&D Next version of the "Ilse of Dread" and "Caves of Chaos" (which is simply "Keep on the Boarderlands"). Again these came out with the first play test packet, so their monster math are outaded, but you can simply plug in the most recent stats for the monsters and get to adventuring!
