D&D 5E Release date?

Also considering that 5E won't have the systematic complexity of 3E or the tactical complexity of 4E, I'm hoping the game is designed just so it can be mastered in an afternoon of guided play.
Anecdotal evidence: I run D&D Encounters. Pretty much every week, someone joins the game who has played D&D or Pathfinder before, but not D&D Next. They pick a pre-gen. They play. No guidance necessary.

Another anecdotal evidence: my wife had never played a RPG before; after two sessions of DnD Next, she navigates her character sheet easily and is already explaining the concepts to other people. Obviously, I treat things such as background and subclass as part of being a human fighter instead of trying to give further detail. It's pretty much how I remember teaching people how to play AD&D, and it's awesome.

Thanks for the link (which I can't quote in this post because I've not got 10 posts yet), but I don't see any links on that website, just text. There doesn't seem to be anything to click on

IIRC there was a major release last year or the year before where you could preorder on the publishers website and pick up in a designated line at GenCon. I think it may have been Privateer Press or Wyrd.

Something like that would be nice for 5e.
I believe it was Gale Force 9.

The ressources are uploaded on his Google Drive, if you click any, it should open and allow to save as PDF.

Do we know how xp is handled? I quite like the 13th Age mode, wherein the DM decides when you level up

I assume that's not the case with 5ed?

It's unlikely to be the default, but it can certainly be the case at any given table.

We've been running the playtest adventures, and that's what I've been doing.

Thaumaturge.
