Release of the Hall of Many Panes

Gary Gygax
Greetings Fellows!

A bit remiss in this, but someone reminded me that I was going to announce the publication of my campaign-length module, the Hall of Many Panes. Sorry, as it has been out for a good month, but you can check it out here if so motivated:

Cheers,

Damn that sounds like fun!

If there's some Clark Ashton Smith-isms I. Am. Sold! :D
Damn!

Why didn't I have the benefit of your suggestion while I was writing all those separate scenarios :] I have nothing that is directly related to Clark Ashton Smith and the overall HPL school of horror in the work. There are one or two fairly strange scenarios though that might come near to that.

Cheers,
Gary

Somebody on the Pied Piper Boards posted a link to a thread here that is critiquing the madule.

My low esteem for critics prevents me from getting into that one. The best way to comment on what is excellence in the subject being critiqued is to submit one's creative effort in that vein to the public for their approval. All else in personal opinion, and likely pretty inexpert at that, regardless of whether it is boquets or brickbats being thrown

Heh,
Gary

That told me. :)

On the other thread I'm just giving my honest reaction to the module, which I did pay a (substantial amount of) good money for. It seems to have some problems, objectively (the loose leaf art, which Troll Lords have promised to replace) and more subjectively in some other areas (I find the read-aloud text too long, and overly prescriptive in places where it tells the players what their PCs are doing). The module seems to have a lot of potential too for enjoyable games, if I can successfully address what are for me the problem areas. It's certainly full of ideas!
And yes, everything I've written is entirely my personal opinion & reaction, I claim no special expertise.

Heh! It is not possible to please every taste in RPGs, of course. Nor is it my place to tell you what you should like in an adventure module. No one can dispute that personal preference, regardless of any expertise they may (or may not) possess. As with most who create, I just am not much given to respecting the thoughts and opinions of critics, be they positive or negative. My measure of the worth of something is that found by the amount of enjoyment that those using the material gained from it ;)

BTW, not a few outspoken gamers have stated that my adventure material has lacked sufficient exposition. Go figure...

Cheers,
Gary

I just got HoMP a day or so ago; I'm still reading it. So far, I'm enjoying it. I always have enjoyed adventures featuring a number of different planes or demiplanes. Not so coincidentally, I find it to be very reminiscent of the "Dungeonland" modules, as well as Queen of the Demonweb Pits.

Howdy Colonel:)

I hope you have a good time playing it. My group surely did, although it was touch and go a few times, a cake-walk in a few other scenarios. The young H&S platers actually managed to do well and enjoy the encounters where they absolutely had to roleplay and speak in character too

Heh, thank you Gary. :) I'm no critic, just a gamer. If I do claim expertise it's on the copyright law threads (and of course I get shot down all the time). I think HomP is an exciting project, with so much in it I know there are ways I can make good use of it; I'm still thinking out loud how to do that - and on the Internet out loud is very loud. ;)
I think the tone may not fit in my current D&D 3rd edition game, which is running Necromancer's Lost City of Barakus; I may run it using Castles & Crusades to avoid dealing with preconceptions of what a 3e adventure should be like (I don't possess LA, and C&C seems very Gygaxian). Spoiler:
I do think I'll not turn the PCs into acorn-people as their very first experience of the module. ;)
