Releasing the hounds

It sounds very workable

A half fiendish goblin warlord with a minor artifact to aid in planar travel sounds appropriate for the goblin warlord end of things. The backstory for the Elven Blackguard also sounds good. Working in a demonic puppet master sounds like a nice touch as well.

I suggest making the warlord a "Disiple of Dispater" (Book of Vile Darkness), except in this case, Dispater is really Sayar. I am not certain if you want a spell caster type of warlord or a warrior type, but Dispater sounds the most in line with the message of "Strength and the rule of Law".

However, I dont think your Elven Paladin would stoop to posing as a goblin. He sounds too proud for that. He would be better off simply obscuring his appearance and manner, acting as a "Divine Messenger" for Sayar.

So ... what do you think about an elvish blackguard?

I think it is a cool idea- and most of it sounds tight. It makes sense that the few people would know of this bg- because the elves would have buried the legend in shame. So, perhaps some odd historian happens upon a lost tome that shows a pic of the bg- now he has to find someone to trust with the info.. so he can stop him and not lose his head.

Deathknights in LGG Dragon

The LGG Dragon has a series of articles on the first Death Knights. Human warriors from the Great Kingdom who were seduced and damned by Demogorgon.

Maybe some of them were imprisoned and have now been released.
