OOC: I'm back. :) Queenie, do you mean on a regular basis or just that night? I'm assuming she has a room there but occasionally disappears to do her own thing when the group has a few days to kill between jobs.

OOC: Yeah, I just meant does she stay here in general? I think most of us ladies have nights out and probably most of us don't need to ask where the others were or even up to lol.

Zephia sneaks off and tracks down some of the crewmen from Jack’s ship, the Bonne Homme Ricard. Easier to track them rather than the more experienced core team Handsome Jack brings with him during his treasure hunts. The rogue picks up snippets of the conversation. How Jack and his crew will be travelling at first light, a couple of hours before the Relic Hunters, but that they will have to take a northerly side route before continuing back east, meaning that they’ll reach their objective a day or two later than Zephia, Angelina, and the rest. That they were given an Azure Legion observer of their own, who it is rumored doesn’t know his way too well, hence they are also given a Shem guide with crude mannerisms that seems to annoy everyone except Rolfe, who seemed to enjoy goading the Shem. Zephia also hears it said, “The Captain’s nay sure when they’ll be back. His mate gave us a token, though. Says to break it and speak a short message in case we gets trouble here. They’ll know something is up then and head on back quick.” After that the conversation switches to women in various ports, the poor excuse for alcohol found in the area, and the stupid trick a sailor named Cluge Fivepalmed can do with his fake eye, so Zephia turns in after sharing the information with her comrades.

Briony went shopping, gathering some weapons and equipment she felt would come in handy. Bella did the same, smug in the feeling of success.

The next day they are refreshed and meet up with their new guide, the same Azure Legion officer that the Relic Hunter’s had seen during their successful negotiations with the Grey Wand Clan. The Azure Legion officer is tall and dark-haired. Though she has the shape and face that men would find attractive, her business-like stance and habit of staring at people in a long and critical way quickly diminishes her beauty. There is no visible sign of her office on her body, as she is supposedly undercover, and her attire is simple for someone in a lower middle-class caste: sandals, a beige Tsoylani skirt, light blue and beige tunic without sleeves, a tiara with coral stones to keep her hair pulled back, and a curved, specially treated bone sword with simple bronze handle. ”I am Yolkana, and you will follow me to the village of Akajhun, a seven-day journey, where I will act as a simple hired hand. You will provide cover for me in this by keeping the elders there busy while I investigate the dealings of the Black Earth Clan. The following days we will search the surrounding swamps in order to locate the nearby temple and discover its purpose,” she says all this simply as if describing the weather. With that, she pulls her supply-laden pack mule and begins the track, not seeming to wait for you to catch up. Several other pack mules carrying camp supplies and food await for each of you to claim, gifts from Chaturgha hiTokeshqu. The day is quite warm, though dark clouds hang in the sky ahead.

[section]Briony grabbed the reins of the closest mule and tugged. To her dismay, the beast dug in its hooves and stood fast. "Son of a 617c4!" She yanked harder this time, and slapped the recalcitrant on its rump. The animal bayed. Loudly. But didn't move a hair. Cursing her ill luck, Briony attempted to coax the mule with soft words. "You like oats? I have oats. You lot like oats, right?" The pack animal huffed air out its velvety nostrils but trod forward, picking its way down the trail after Yolkana. Briony brushed a lock of hair from her eyes and groaned. "Figures I'd get the stubborn one. [/section]

Bella gets on her mount as well, laughing at Briony,

"You always do pick winners."

She gives her mule a kick and it trots along after the others.

The next four days are slow progress as a light, but steady rain slicks up the road. You pass a few travelers along the way; usually the poorer sort but once you passed a procession carrying a higher caste nobleman in a closed scarlet litter. During this happenstance the group followed Yolkana's lead and bowed low in prostration until the procession passed. The first two night were spent in well-kept yurts along the way that catered to merchants travelling the Emperor's road to and from Jakalla. However, such establishments became more rare on the third and fourth nights, forcing you to break out your portable tents from your mules. On the fifth day you were even further from civilized lands and the road still had not recovered from the rains the days previous, though the sun was shining bright and making you sweat heavily in the heat. Ahead of you, just off the road, could be seen a green-colored litter. This one was tilted up on its side and two armored mercenaries could be seen face-down in the muddy grass, their bodies slightly swelled and covered in flies. Oddly, no signs of the porters can be seen, and you can't see inside the closed litter in order to observe any survivors inside. Yolkana does not progress any closer to the litter, nor does she says anything (hell, she hardly said anything during the entire trip so far). But she does grip her bone sword and starts staring at the nearby tree line.

Bella halts her mule and puts a ready hand on the hilt of her sword.

"Bandits or local wild life?"

She keeps the chat short and to the point, making her mule turn short semi circles and watches the surroundings for movement.

Yolkana says the first string of words long enough to make sentences since the trip started, "We won't know for sure until we look at those bodies. Creatures from the nearby marshes usually avoid the roads, but that long rain has nearly extended the marsh out to here. I suspect wild beasts."

Zephia was miserable but hadn't let on...too much. Being on the boat was far preferable to this miserable land-locked heat.

Zephia was wary of a possible ambush, "I'll go check out the bodies. Everybody watch the sides of the road, please."

With that, Zephia pulls her shortbow and readies an arrow as she approaches the bodies.
