OOC: First, you are walking with the pack mules, not riding, so you have no penalty from being on horseback. Second, I will allow melee fighters who hold position to ignore initiative during the first round and get the first attack when the creatures come into range. After that, combat will flow by order of initiative.

Third, you will roll a d20 to hit. Add your character class BonusToHit with your Dex bonus (if using ranged) or Str bonus (if using melee) to your attacks. Zephia is a rogue, so she has a +1 BtH at level 3, and she is using a ranged weapon so she adds a +2 to her attack from her Dex bonus, or a total of +3. She gets no Str bonus, so her total melee attack bonus would only by +1 from the class BtH.

Bella has a class BtH of +3 for being a fighter. She also gets a +2 to that with melee weapons due to her Strength. She specializes in longswords, so she gets an additional +1 when using one. If using a ranged weapon, her lower Dex bonus only gives her a +1. So her total BtH would be a +6 with a longsword, +5 with any other melee weapon, and +4 with a ranged weapon (said crossbow).

It looks like Briony is waiting for melee engagement with her two-handed sword. In the coming melee round she will get a +3 for character class BtH at her level, +2 for Str bonus, and +1 for weapon specialization, or a +6 total BtH for her two-handed sword, +5 for a different melee weapon, or due to her +1 bonus for Dex, she would need a +4 for a ranged weapon.

[section]"Holy snot cakes!" Briony adjusts her grip on the hilt of her blade and steels herself for the onslaught. She readies herself to swing at the first insectoid.[/section]

I looked through the Castles and Crusades .pdf and didn't see whether I should be adding Briony's Strength bonus x one and a half because she wields a two-handed sword. If so, then she'll do 2d6+4 damage.

"Barely on the road," Angelina sighs, preparing for battle. She gives it a thought before a smirk comes to her face. Riding had been boring after all... "Looks like there is one for each of us gals."

OOC: Angelina will cast sleep, if they are within range. If not, she will magic missile someone's a$$.

That said, Jon and I are leaving for vacation today not to return until 3/20. I will have access but it will be spotty until I get caught up. I should be able to post today from the airport. But otherwise, of course, feel free to play Ang. Since this is the first battle I don't have any info on my spells yet. Is that in the quickset you posted?

Bella's shot strikes the lead creature in its right shoulder, breaking through its carapace and drawing a spout of blood. The monster stumbles a bit on its way to attack Briony, but the warrior's large sword slices through its head and continues its path, severing the neck. The broken body twitches and falls to the ground with a sickening crunch. Angelina looks almost bored as she lets out her sleep spell, knocking out two of the Lri that were flying towards her. They both land onto the ground and collapse unconscious.

The creatures seem semi-intelligent, for they hesitate a moment before their hunger drives them to attack. The first goes after your guide, while the second seeks out Zephia.

OOC: Initiative time! Everyone roll a simple 1d10 with no adjustments. Briony cannot attack further, as she already successfully made her attack at the beginning of the round.
