Religion for all the other characters

I should add that the rogue discovered the existance of Drendari but his character isnt from here he is from the forgotten realms which he refers to the "far east". his mentor is a follower of Drendari and he will likly convert when he levels up.

That long introduction and product plug leads me to the following question, do your players that are not clerics and paladins have religion as a big component of how they play their characters? What provisions do you make for their interaction with their churches and their deities?

In the games where I'm a player, I tend to have religious PCs (how religious varies) but the DMs haven't seen fit to really include much in the way of interactions with churches. Maybe this has something to do with my affection for lesser-known deities and deities in racial pantheons.

For my players, I really try to involve them but I end up with relatively few PCs that have much in the way of religious interests. There's the arcane trickster that recently converted to Azuth and his affiliation with the local church has come into play a little bit when he instructed the party that only so-and-so should be tapped to raise him. It's a lawful religion, so they had special rules for raising and being in a lawful city they had rules of that kind to consider too.

Since the PC was an employee of the state (sort of) the city rules were waived, but they still needed the assent of the high priest and so forth.

I'd like to use the game religions more, but my players don't seem to bite.

It depends on the character, really. I've had some over the whole spectrum, of those that were not clerics, paladins or druids. Many of my fighter characters tend to be religious. Rogues could go either way; one might be like the tomb raider in The Mummy , with all the various amulets and charms of every religion, while another might disdain anything he could not sell.

I've had characters make conversions, too, from one to the other. One thief I had was saved by an impromptu divine intervention. He took a level of cleric, and was a devoted follower after that.
