Removing damage dice for attack bonuses

Why not adjudicate the damage individually?

There was a formula (best word I can think of) of what weapon ability (can trip, higher threat etc) equals what sort of bonus and how many 'points' you need to be an exotic, martial, or simple. If you could find that you could tweek it for your version.

Damage reduction would be converted into an AC bonus, with that system.

However, it'll be hard to avoid separating "bonuses to damage" and "bonuses to attack" anyway. The purpose of such a house rule is to reduce the number of calculations: one roll, one addition, one substraction, and here you go!
If you have to differentiate between "bonus to attack only" "bonus to attack and to damage" and "bonus to damage only", the point of the house-rule becomes self-defeating.

Take Power Attack, for example. With that system, it is pointless.
Let's take AC 12, attack result 18. That's 7 damage.
Now we power-attack at -5 with the same score. Attack result is 13 (because of the -5), damage is 2 +5 (because of power attack). Only with two-handed weapons does it become interesting.

True Strike's bonus would have to be lessened, as it effectively becomes "add +20 damage to your attack".

The idea is interesting, but it will be a lot of work to hunt down every little things that can make it go awry.
