Removing warning label from BoVD?

Quasqueton

First Post
So I bought the Book of Vile Darkness. First thing I do is try to remove that warning label from the cover. Unfortunately it doesn't just peel off. The label tears and rips. I try another corner and just get more tearing and ripping.

If I had known it didn't easily peel off, I would have left it alone. But now I have this crappy looking corner of the book. The book cover itself is not damaged (yet), but the label is messy. I don't want to damage the book, but I want that sticker off. And I don't want a sticky mess left on the cover that could damage other books on my shelf.

How did you get that label off your BoVD?

Thanks.

I made the same mistake you did!

I ended up using a flannel and a weak soap & water mix. Eventually the label came off completely. No damage to the cover but in a certain light you can still see where the label was.

If you try this be very careful not to get the flannel too wet as you don't want to get the pages of the book wet!

I did not take mine off as when I started to I realised that waswhat would happen. I think you might want to try a damp cloth andsome citric adhesive remover (a very small ammount).

However I claim no responsibility if this destorys your book.

Heck even a damp cloth might be enough. Same disclaimer applies.

after I realsed they were hard to get off I decided to leave it on. What the heck its all part of the mistique anyway.

Goo Gone

My mother is a librarian, and at her library they use an adhesive remover called Goo Gone to get all the sticky crap that people inevitably get stuck to things-that-are-not-their-own off without damaging the books.

I think you can pick it up at most any hardware store - and probably at many grocery stores in the cleanser aisle.

That said, I've never had reason to use it on any of my D&D books, so proceed with caution.

Personally, I hate any stickers on my books. I don't care if it's just a price sticker on the back, it still bugs me. I wish that companies that felt they needed to put sticky labels on a book would use some sort of removable adhesive.

*sigh*

I'll second the Goo Gone vote- I have used it on game books many times to get labels off, never with any damage to the book itself. I think as long as the surface you are putting it on is laminated or plastic sealed (like most book covers are nowdays) the Goo Gone won't seep in and damage the paper. I apply it with a Q-tip, rub it into the sticker really well with the Q-tip, then the sticker peels off like nothin'. If there is any glue residue left, use a little more Goo Gone and its gone without a trace of where the glue was.

Probably Goo Gone is fine, though I haven't used it. But when I worked at Waldenbooks we used Acetone and it worked great. Just another possibility for you to try.

You can also try using heat to melt the glue. I usually use one of those microwave heatpads, although you could also try using a hairdryer or a towel fresh from the dryer.

I have to ask, is that your little one in your avatar, there?

You can try this, but do so at your own risk....

I pulled the sticker off and used a small amount of Zippo lighter fluid on the goop that remained behind. It came right off and only left a little bit of discoloration. Nothing noticable.
