Renegade to Reprint Lords of Waterdeep

The board game was originally published by Wizards of the Coast in 2012.

One of the top D&D board games ever published is getting a reprint. Renegade Game Studios will reprint Lords of Waterdeep and its expansion Skulls of Skullport, with an anticipated retail date of April 2026. The ENnie Award winning board game was originally published in 2012 and featured players taking on the roles of Masked Lords of Waterdeep, working to expand their influence over the city by completing quests and purchasing new buildings that help all players. This appears to be a pure reprint - the cover art is the same and even uses the old Dungeons & Dragons logo treatment instead of an updated logo.

Lords of Waterdeep was originally published by Wizards of the Coast, so Renegade taking over the reprint of the game is certainly notable news. Renegade and Hasbro have a solid working relationship, with Renegade taking over publishing of several "non-core" games such as Axis and Allies and Robo Rally. Renegade also has a history of supporting these reprints with new editions and expansions, so it's possible that the game will see some kind of new content if sales are strong.

I wonder if Hasbro released an asymetric board game where each faction has got its different game mechanics like "Roots, a game of woodland might and right" by Leder Games.

They should take out mandatory quests...
Disagree. the mandatory quests can help keep one player from running away with the game and add in an increased level of player interaction without being too detrimental. If anything should get popped out it's the Open Lord quest that makes one player immune to all mandatory quests.

It's a pretty well-balanced game, though it can drag a little at 6 players. It's also more fun when people dive into the theme rather than look at the various recruits as being "orange widget, purple widget" etc

Didn't know it was OOP. I think a reprint would do well.

I am not alone with my opinion.

There are houserules out there.

The biggest problem is when you draw them early, when noone is running away. It gives no benefit for the person playing the card.

My houserule is that you can discard mandatory quests for a new card anytime you want.

And maybe that you at least get to chose a resource from the resources whem the quest is done.

They should replace the wooden cubes with tokens.

It is a fine game. I wish they would produce a german version.
Being english prevents me to play it with my son.
