Rental properties in a metropolis...

Arravis

First Post
Considering the massive costs of buildings (Stronghold Builder's Guide), I was thinking that renting would be quite common. Anyone know of a source out there that gives some sort of pricing structure for renting in cities (I'll throw in modifiers for different wards, etc)?

I have a player who is attempting to rent a warehouse or somesuch to use as a temporary shelter for refugees. Anyway, I'm just trying to get an idea of the cost of such... thanks :).

1% of the cost of the structure would seem reasonable, the landowner makes his money back in about 8 1/2 years that way. In a high risk area or a highly popular area you might want to make it 2% of cost.

Just a thought.

Sharn has some rudimentary costs for renting a place to live.
Upscale: 2d8*10 gp per month (or 2d8*2,500 to buy)
Average: 1d4*10 gp per month (or 1d4*1,500 to buy)
Poor: 1d4 gp per month (or 1d4*100 to buy)

Staying at an inn for 30 days (average month length) costs 6, 15 or 60 gp depending on accomodations. I'd say renting a similar property would range for 2-5 times as much depending on how much bigger the rental is compared to an inn room. An apartment arrangement might only be twice as much, but a separate building with land could be 5 or more times as much.

1-2% is a good real world estimate. The property owner will make back the construction money in between 10 20 years depending on maintenance costs and other misc expenses such as taxes.
