Pathfinder 1E Replacing dragons

I'm thinking in replacing dragons in my campaigns.
I want to have one unique "type" of dragons. I'm starting to dislike chromatic dragons. I mean, they are b awesome but having the same categories of dragons in every setting is like too much for me. I will have only one "type" of dragons.... just dragons... the elemental stuffs will be only one characteristic of the creature. I'm know what what I'll do in the mechanics. I don't know how to alter the settings I run to match this (golarion, forgotten realms).
any advise?

Will they be intelligent? still apex monsters?

if you want a lower power style of dragon that's just meant to be a serious monster (but not super high level) you try dropping the overall hd and power. Maybe do a straight conversion of a 1e red dragon, drop the int so they're not so cunning.

they will be still intelligent creatures. they will have the same mechanics they have now but they will not have different fluff and look. there will be only one race of dragons. selecting the "color of the mechanics" will depend on the history and lair of the creature.
color dragons are so "not generic" to me. I feel like different color of dragons as a setting feature, not something aplicable to dnd in general.
I'll have no trouble in a homebrew campaign, but I want ideas to adapt fluff of existing settings to my Kind of dragons (tiamat, I'm looking at you).
I can see all dragons been black or brown.

You could consider tanimin dragons which are slightly different than typical D&D dragons, though with some similarities. Tanimin are the dragon race featured in Rite Publishing's In the Company of Dragons, which allow for PC dragons that are still balanced to the rest of an adventure party.

You could go the Dragon Warrior route: there are three types of dragons (in ascending power): green, blue and red. Besides the power difference, they're all the same monster. Except red has a trick up his sleeve: he's learned to cast Sleep.

How do you incorporate it into different worlds?

You'd better pick just one, because different dragons mean different things to different settings. Some are like gods, some are like guardian beasts of nature, some are a new top of the food chain, and others are just dumb beasts that breathe fire (like the DW ones). Replacing dragons means finding a suitable substitution for a role, not just for a monster.

You could just pick the mechanics of one of the more powerful Pathfinder species and adjust the power level according to the age of the individual dragon. If you run a module that contains a dragon character, just adjust the age of your generic dragon to fit the power level of the one in that campaign. Less powerful ones might be juveniles, for example.
