Replacing Powerful Build...

In my case, Powerful Build didn't work well at my table.

With some brief examples of the egregious abuses you've seen, perhaps I can offer more useful advice about your solution?


Otherwise, it looks like frankthedm has a nice "fix". I modified the portions that didn't sound quite right, to make them less situational:

Big ‘un!: You are impressively large for a member of your race, perhaps from a large-sized forebear of a different race.

You gain a +2 bonus on checks where one size category increase would grant a +4 bonus.
You suffer a -2 penalty on checks where one size category increase would impose a -4 penalty.
You gain a +50% increase in your carrying capacity.
You gain a +100% increase to your recommended daily intake of food and drink.
You can treat any exotic one-handed weapon, if it normally is treated as martial when wielded two-handed, as though it were a martial one-handed weapon for you.
You gain Monkey Grip as a bonus feat. In addition you do not suffer the -2 to hit with large versions of any exotic one-handed weapon, if it normally is treated as martial when wielded two-handed.

Huh? Are you saying that races with Powerful Build aren't able to use medium-size weapons? Or am I not understanding what you said?

I left out "and get the bonus damage". In context, we were talking about giving a damage bonus to powerful-build-like characters, and I was saying that wasn't quite the same.

Thanks, All. I definitely appreciate the feedback so far. That's one of the things I enjoy about posting here on ENWorld; other posters tend to post very good suggestions and such that help you clarify a creative experiment. You can usually tell you are off base somewhere when no one posts anything constructive or supportive. (I call it the "Get-A-Clue Response", but that's just me). Here, it looks like I had at least something of a good idea, something not too outrageous, and with the help of others, that idea has been refined. I definitely appreciate everyone's input very much.
