Requesting Stats - Bad form?

Ruined

Question for moderator types and the general public. I'm wondering what the feeling is about someone asking for details from a book that's not the SRD, like monster stats by a book from a different publisher.

My situation: I'm running some of the older Ravenloft modules for friends using updated 3e material. One of the books I don't have yet is Denizens of Darkness, a hardback monster book. I plan to purchase it, but money is currently devoted towards the new apartment. One of the modules I'm running is 'Night of the Walking Dead', which features a Zombie Lord near the end. I want to use a suitable conversion for 3e. Zombie Lords are not in the standard WotC books, but I'm fairly sure it's printed in DoD, with all of it's special abilities, CR, etc.

Is it bad form to ask for certain details, such as stat blocks, for the creature on the boards?

If it's not open gaming content, then yeah I'd say it would be "bad form." Saying something like "Could someone who owns the Ravenloft DoD book drop me an e-mail at blahblahblah.com" and then handling the issue in private might be a better solution.

May I offer a dissenting opinion? I don't think it's bad form if the material is OGC, and you only need a small amount of it. I think using good judgment as to what is a "small amount" is important, though. If you want a whole monster and not just a fast summary, private email is probably the way to go.

Hrm, well without that book, I can't really tell if it's OGC or not. I'll presume it isn't.

The writeup for the original beastie had some interesting stuff for a special attack dealing with it's odor. Much like a Ghast with special random effects (one of which being instant death if you failed the save - Ouch!).

Worst-case scenario (for my players), I can wing it and create my own. They'd probably do better with the book version. :D
