My favourite Scotty moment will be when he reprised his role in the Next Generation episode, Relics. Confronting Picard on the holodeck, he exhorts disappointment in the fact that the facsimile generated by the new Enterprise might look convincing but he used to be able to tell how fast the original ship was travelling 'by the vibration in the deck plates'.
That episode, IIRC, also contained one of my favorite Scotty lines which went something like "Lad, if you want em to think you're a miracle worker you never tell em how long it's really going to take!" It is advice that has served me well in my IT career.

RIP Scotty.

I just read the news and came here to pay my respects. Though this is a worthy obituary, it does not mention the one thing for which, if I am not mistaken, I think James Doohan's place in TV history should be remembered. His most famous character, Scotty, shared the first on-screen, inter-racial kiss in television, with Lt. Nyota Uhura (Nichelle Nichols).

Two things:

1. That wasn't him. It was Shatner.
2. This is a bit more nitpicky, but they've never mentioned a first name for Uhura. Not like Sulu.

I met Jimmy when I was just 18 at my second ever Trek convention in the 70s. I had my first taste of Scotch with him at the dead dog party. Cons were so different back then the stars actually came to the dead dog parties and judged the costume contest. Not like today when all they do is show up talk sign autographs and charge a small fortune.

He was a funny sweet man who always said hi and shared a drink with me when we were at the same cons.

I will miss him.

I'll never forget the first time Star Trek ever aired. I was hooked from then on. And Scotty became one my personal favorites. The news of James Doohan passing bummed me out all day. First DeForest Kelly and now James Doohan. :(

Another Sci-Fi star dead. That´s bad...
*melodramatic* Will all our dreams die? I mean, it´s not just that actors die - we aren´t on Mars yet, there is still no world-wide peace (in fact, it seemed we made a few steps back), no existing commercial fusion reactors, hell, even the Space Shuttle seems to fail...

It is a good advice - always have a safety zone for unexpected problems. Because, you know, unexpected problems will always occur. :)
