Resurrecting Undead Spawn Characters

I had an incident in my last game wherein a character who has been in the game for 5 years of actual play time was slain in an ambush by three greater shadows. As a result, he was spawned as one himself, and the other characters in turn had to kill his shadow to save themselves.

They took his body with them. The question remains, however....

If they have his body, and killed the undead creature that he was turned into, can he be resurrected or reincarnated? Or does it require a wish? Or is he now gone permanently?

Yes, once he is no longer undead he can be resurrected. But he can not be raised while he is still a Shadow of his former self.

What he said. Raise dead and reincarnate won't work, but resurrection and true resurrection will. (Though as AG said, even they will work only after the undead creature he's been turned into has been destroyed. Since you seem to have done that already, you're good to go.)
