Return of the Archmages and The Seige

Have any of you read these books? I have recently made a character who will be using the shadow weave and will at some point create his own magical sword.
In several cases Vaasans in the story were attacking the Pherimm using shadow weave swords. These swords would cut right through the protections that the Pherimm had cast upon themselves.
I wanted to know how this would translate into game machanics.

There was an article in Dragon Magazine that had all the stats for the weapons and armor. I don't remember which Dragon it was, maybe someone at home can look it up?

I hope you have the Forgotten Realms Book. They have a whole section on shadow weave and what it does. That should have all the rules you are looking for, spells and magic item creation and a prestige class. Hope that helps. I don't remeber any Dragon Mag that had Shadow Weave items, one of them had characters from the books I believe.

Darkswords

Darkswords (And Darkdaggers... it looks like any weapon can be made into a "darkweapon") ignore Weave-based magical armor bonuses and magical armor enhancement bonuses. (Thus +3 chainmail would provied just the armor bonus of non-magical chainmail and the mage armor spell would provide no protection at all. Although all Darkswords are identical in appearance, each is passed down through a particular family and causes 1d4 points of cold damage per round to anyone not of that family who holds the weapon (Melegaunt excepted).

Paraphrased from the article:
Some darkswords also have other abilities. Vala's Darksword grants Darkvision (60 ft.) to anyone who weilds it and can command her sword to fly to her (as the fly spell) Vala's can also show her what is happening in the Granite Tower's bedchambers at night through clairvoyance. Other Darkswords hum in battle. murmir at night, or lose their color if they are not plunged into a vat of mead daily. It seems like all Darkweapons from the books are +5, but I'm sure they don't ALL have to have that high of a bonus. They are all considered to be minor articfacts.

One of the designers was asked ( it was monte or sean I believe) about the Weave slicing abilities were an literary license thing. Not something that would translate into game mechanics. But I could be wrong.

where did you get this from?

Sorry 'bout that... I got it from Dragon Magazine #281, in the article detailing the heroes of the Summoning. The article was wriiten by Troy Denning, the author of The Summoning and The Seige.
