Return of the Boxed Product

I'm personally intrigued that Fantasy Flight seems to be trying to return to a boxed format for Warhammer. Given the fact I was never around during second edition I'm unfamiliar as to how popular this format is. Is this a plus for the system? Is it something that I should view as a negative? Is the only reason we moved away from such sets was because of price or was there another reason?

I'm only around from early 3.5 but I'm a great fan of Planescape and own a number of boxed sets. I love the feeling of having a boxed set. You basically have a 'theme' for the box, and the box contains a number of goodies. A monster book, a player's book, a DM's book and a poster size map. Sometimes extra stuff, like an adventure or a short comic in Bloodwar. It allows for a large part of customization.

I would've loved that they would bring the 4e yearly settings in boxed sets. They could add a few miniatures for example.

I was right in there during the box set era of 2ed. I love them. You can store other books, papers and so on in a box set. It made organization easier. I never really understood whey they went away.. Maybe because they took up more shelf space in book stores? Eh, anways, it's nice to see their return.

The Dragon Age rpg will be in a box set, too.

They did this with the three 3rd ed beginner sets. Those boxes were heavy duty and full of great stuff. I'm currently using them to hold my dungeon tiles.
