Return of The King EE DVD tidbits.

Ugh. I STILL haven't seen ROTK. I'm waiting for the EE release. :(

(For the reason why, let's just say I have the attention span of a hummingbird. I like being able to pause movies for minutes or hours at a time--or even stop it, and return to the same chapter, days later--and I like having movies start when I want them to start... Neither of which theaters--or pay-per-view channels--do to cater to me.)

Harrumph! :)
Pity. However good the home system is, it just doesn't match up to the pleasure of seeing a movie like RotK on the big screen. YMMV.

If you get a chance, see RoTK on the big screen. Lots more action then the other two movies, I don't think you would be bored. At least rent the TC DVD when it comes out in a few weeks.

Talk of releasing a mega edition with new material kind of irks me. PJ said he was not doing it, but maybe he lies to get people to spend there money like everyone else in hollywood.

I don't care much personally, the last thing I need is to listen to the actors, writers and directo yammer more about effects or the films. I have not been able to sit through more than 1 or 2 of the extras anyway. I do love the extended movies though.

Actually, I find the extra features (like the "making of..." and "behind-the-scene") more enjoyable than the films themselves.

Granted, I don't listen to the audio commentary of the movie, but I'm guessing somebody else would want to. Still, I'm getting my money's worth.

So what if there is yet another edition of the same film? If they're not as dumb as Tarentino, they won't release them all at once. Give us time to replenish our fund. Then again, unless you don't have your buying compulsive disorder in control, just buy what you need and that's that. This also applies to RPGs.

Don't get me wrong, the "making of" and other extras can be entertaining but would you ever watch it more than once? I could always rent those extras (I wouldn't, but someone could).

The more the better

I love the extended editions. It's a great opportunity to see aspects of a film that you would never see in the theaters and it's one of the greatest things about the DVD revolution.

I love to see the scenes that got edited out of the theatrical showing of the film. The more the better for the Lord of the Rings, but this also applies to other movies like Gladiator.

I love listening to the commentaries. I've watched or listened to almost all of the commentaries on the two previous movies. Some of it is informative, some of it is funny, and some is impressive. I'm even more amazed at the movies after listening to the commentaries than before. The excruciating detail they put into every scene is just incredible.

I love seeing the original art and how the special effects shots were done. The behind the scenes stuff is interesting to me. It lets me see the side of movie making that I will never get to witness in real life.

Yeah for the extended editions!!!!!
