I have read it, but let's see how to review it?
First thing, there's the back cover;
Ignore it! Whoever wrote that has not even read the book.
The actuall cover blurb should read;
Watch as Elminster wanders around the realms, bumping into one (of many) daughters, dragons, conspiracies, regents, sorceressess, and missing mages.
It does provide some realmslore, but little in an actual story. No real villian, no real purpose, and no real surprises.
It's the kind of book I read once and leave on the shelf.

Yes, and it depends on the person reading it.
I read the book from the library, so I cant quote bits straight out of the book. My wife had problems reading the book - too many characters to keep track of. You meet one on page x, and they pop again on page xx and she couldnt remember if they had been mentioned or not. (I didnt have that problem and was able to tell her if she had read about that person before and when).
As Dark Psion wrote, the blurb on the book does not fully match how the book is actually written. There are a number of subplots that have nothing to do with the main story, but are interesting.
The book was interesting definitely, but I would only recommend it if you are an Ed Greenwood/Forgotten Realms fan who devours every book read.

What I liked was Mystra telling Elminster and Simbul to back off from the Thayans so that there was an increase in magic items throughout the Realms.
