Please share with the rest of us the reviewer(s) who can really draw you to a product. ENWorld reviewer(s) or not. If you can, please sum up what it is about their work that catches your interest.

Mind you, I don't care what reviewers you DON"T like, and would prefer the thread not go that direction.

For me? Not a one. The thing that draws me to a product is when 15 people jump in and say, "Oh, my GOD is this a great product! It's got this and this and this and this! You oughta see this thing!" If a product is good enough to freak out a bunch of different people at once, it's worth me taking a look at. Otherwise, I'll probably regret the purchase later.

If John Cooper has done a review, I like to check it out. He's got a great eye for detail that far exceeds my own.

Psion's reviews are like talking to an old friend where we have somewhat similar but different taste and I enjoy seeing what he has to say about a product.

I like John Cooper's reviews because he instantly corrects errata.

Generally, though, reviews don't convince me to buy or not buy, but they do help me to *use* a product by pointing out features and mechanics that may or may not be balanced and why.

I enjoy the reviews of all of the EN World staff reviewers.

Psion

If his reviewing style of "Here's what it is and here's what it does" wasn't already taken, I'd be trying to use it (Rather than my own "Here's what ws going on in my head as I read this" style) :)

I really like all of the staff reviewers at EN World. They each do a good job of giving a product a fair shake, but beyond that, each of them has their own style which is sufficiently different to give a wide variety of angles on the same subject. I usually read all of their reviews, and have found that Crothian pretty much likes what I like.

Of all of them though, I really look foward to the John Cooper reviews. I know some people don't appreciate so much detail, but I think its great. Being a games designer not only do I get a good overview of a product and its rules merit, I also get a peek ahead at potential pitfalls with our own products.

/broken record

I prefer Psion's reviews as they seem to give a very broad coverage of each book.

/end broken record

I dont always agree with his assessments, its about 70-30 or so for me (agree-disagree), but they are very intelligently written and as unbiased as any reviews Ive read (including those of "professional" reviewers).
