Reviewer review

I take more away from negative reviews than i do positive ones. Its easier to detect when someone is grinding an axe then it is to separate a positive review from fanboy spluge. In general, i don't pay a lot of attention to most rpg site's staff reviewers. Too many of them are too diplomatic when they should be scathing, or hesitate in hitting a bad product hard to avoid alienating game companies.

So i guess i look for reviewers who have the same dislikes as i do. TranceJeremy hasn't done me wrong yet, as we have pretty much the same dislikes. While i know that Freeport is written well and has great production and support, i would have been quite dissapointed to buy the books and find out that it was more of a light-hearted version of a pirate/crime haven city. TranceJeremy saved me there.

I want to thank all the people that mentioned me. I'm glad that you appreciate the effort that I put out, and it's part of what keeps me going, and I hope that my reviews help guide you to products that you will like regadless of whether you agree with my bottom line or not. Sometimes I get discouraged when I have to deal with the inevitable personal caca that arises in this arena as in any other and I hear those negative voices over any other.

Definitely, check more than one review if they are available. Sometimes I feel like I have to represent a certain veiwpoint, recognizing that there are other angles to come at it.

More often then not Psion and Teflon Billy tow the line to my tastes. Additionally their involvement in discussions here on EN World has helped me gain a sense of their tastes in gaming, and I can use that information to evaluate their reviews in light of my own tastes in gaming.

Count me as another fan of Psion-ic reviews.

There are two times I generally read reviews. The first is to just find out what's in a book. The other is when I am on the fence about a product. Then I try and read several reviews, hopefully one of Psion's and I also like to read a few negative reviews.

As a retired politician, I believe strongly in "dance with the one that brung ya" so I have to vote for Teflon Billy. Besides, having lived with him, I can detect what the reviews really mean when he writes in code.

Well if you knew Billy, was there no peace? Oh I couldn't resist :D

Anyways, I agree with alot of you that Psion does great reviews, but I also want to put a shout out to my main men TB, Joe G, John C, Simon Collins, and crothian. Everyone does put in a lot of time for which I think we all give genuine thanks.

I'm wondering if those of us with a preference for Psion comes from the fact that he seems to have more of an online presence (check his post count almost double JoeG and TB) and has developed the online persona of someone who is a level headed and sort of the "voice of reason" type of guy.

I always look to TB to be the guy that throws the curveball in a thread/review. Sort of the, "Hey, you really liked game X, then you should check out game Y from way out there studios."

Anyways, for good or bad, right or wrong, the EnWorld staff have moved some product and made some jingle for someone out there because without this place I wouldn't know about half the crap I buy.
