Reviews, more wanted

With Joe, d20 magazine rack, and GameWyrd now on board at ENWorld, it is sort of hard to complain about the breadth and depth of reviews here.

To be honest, if you aren't up to writing a review of at least 3 paragraphs in length and some meaningful commentary on the content, I would rather you not try. I've had to delete 2-4 reviews a week because they are comments and not reviews. I post a comment and then give the reviewer 24 hours to fix it; thus far NOBODY has bothered to do so.

Speaking of which, DrMidnight, if you are out there, your Castles & Keeps review is next on the chopping block...

As far as "owing" something goes, in my mind, if a company sends a reviewer a free copy of a product, the reviewer "owes" the company a review.

He doesn't owe them a GOOD review, though. ;)

I myself am looking at adding more reviews to the DB, though as has been mentioned, since I can only review what I buy, and I usually like what I buy before I buy it, it is a bit self-defeating. My most honest reviews can probably come on electronic (PDF) products and such stuff as E-Tools, where caveat emptor definitely applies, as you can't "leaf through it" first.

i focused so hard on providing a non biased summary of the product i reviewed that i forgot to mention most of the reasons i hated the book. i ramble on about how the editing is not noticabley bad and the text is well written and then POW the 1 out of 5 score hits you in the junk because the book is more a collection of stories then a gaming product.

edit for grammar and spelling.

I don't write review becouse:

1) I don't get asked
2) don't know what to do with the review (where should it go)
3) don't buy all the product from 1 publisher

let me enlighten you then. all you have to do to post a review is go to the enworld main page and click on the reviews link. then sign up (your message board username and password will not automatically work, you have to sign up on that site specifically) and find the listing for the product you want to review. then collect your thoughts and click the add new review link that appears (you have to be logged on for the link to appear) and bang away. just shove your opinion down peoples throats, don't wait for them to ask.

perhaps this is the reason there are not enough reviews. i only learned how to do it last week and other then a few periods where i didn't have internet access i've been coming to the site since Eric ran it. two and a half years and i just learned how to post a review. anyway as requested here is another review posted by a fanatical reviewer. it's my second one

speaking of which kenzer sent me some swag once, i should probably review it now. do hackmaster reviews have any place here?

1) I don't get asked

Please post reviews! (and this from someone who disagrees with your taste in books, heh)

2) don't know what to do with the review (where should it go)

The holly jollyninja did a good job explaining that. Just read the FAQ and you should be fine. If you have any questions, then you know where to post them.

3) don't buy all the product from 1 publisher

That is in no way a requirement.

If it was, then only the wealthiest 1% of the population would be allowed to review Mongoose products!

:D

Damn... I quit buying all the mongoose stuff after they're 4th quint book........ :D So I no longer belong to the top 1%.....

Psion,

You can yell like that till you're red in the text. It probably won't help. Try to stay calm. :)

Shush! He is entertaining when he gets going.

On a serious note- he is one of the people who cleans up the reviews and keeps ENWorld's review section respectable. I can understand his frustration.
