Revising Spells? What about Fireball!!!

And you can do it even without that, come to think of it - so I can deal...

And yes, fireballs as pellets do suXXorz. I would prefer to see balls of fire that you hurl out of your hand. Who came up with this stuff? It's a clear deviation from the way fireballs were in the first D&D!

Hello? Look at the wand of fire description! It shoots a small bead of fire that explodes. Fireballs have always shot tiny pellets or beads.

I do this too. Whenever a known cultist of Vecna casts Magic Missile, the hand and eye image shows up and shoots out the missiles in the form of eyes. A Dragon Cult member will bring into being an incoporeal dragon's head which will shoot out the missiles in the form of tiny bits of the appropriate breath weapon.
One of my players has an arcane archer who shoots out arrow-shapped missiles too.
