D&D 4E Revisiting an old question: 4E Liker - anything you worry about?

Fear 1: The GSL.
Fear 2: Condition tracking, especially saving throws, will be a PitA.
Fear 3: Restrictions.
Exhibit 3.1: You can't attempt a trip or disarm.
Exhibit 3.2: Rogues seem to be forced to use small blades.
(hoping this has changed)
Minor fear: Multiclassing.

#1: I'm not worried anymore.
#2: Confirmed.
#3.1: Semi-confirmed. It's fine as it is I suppose. It is better these are limited/underpowered than the opposite I guess.
#3.2: Confirmed. The double sword makes this one weird.

Minor Fear: I don't like MC so that's confirmed as well.

And what about your wife?
Even 4e wasn't enough to get her to embrace the battlemat. ;)

She was having fun, but in the end she preferred games with less emphasis on the tactics and combat that 4e---and our gaming group---encourages.

But my personal stance on the map/grid thing has reversed itself completely---leaving me the proud owner of all but one set of Dungeon Tiles and a new battlemat which is magnetized so all our counters stay put!

Ooooo!!! Where'd you get that??

I never posted in that older thread but my main fear was that wizards was gonna cater more to the hack'n'slashers and try to appeal to a wider audience, leaving die-hard fans of traditional RPG's (like myself) out in the cold. They have taken major steps to make it more accessible, (my 'videogame comparison' thread) but even still I think 4e is AWESOME. It gained all that accessibility without losing (much of) what I love about pen & paper rpg's. I have my criticisms, but all in all I think the pros FAR outweigh the cons

1. Repetitive use of at will powers.
Not really in itself: the at will powers are not the problem but the fact that many 4E combats go on for too many rounds. Baddies have too many HP or the at wills don't damage enough or whatever. It is my only big gripe so far, having DM'd a group up to lvl 6.
2. Lack of differentiation between those of the same class due to small powers list.
Not a problem at all, even with everybody having the same powers/feat/etc progression.

Rituals don't live up to expectations. The costs, casting times, and durations for many rituals seem rather punitive.

Skill Challenges/social combat turned out to be a huge disappointment. I don't really like complex skill checks because they just increase the die rolling without increasing player involvement. And skill challenges are just complex skill checks spread across the party. There's no give and take that really changes the situation as you go through it.

Sweet!! Not that I'm going to get a chance to play a lot of 4E but since my main group may try Warhammer Fantasy RPG and my bday is coming up I'm all sorts of happy:D:p
