My guess is that it says something in small print on the back.
Not really - at least, not in terms of consistent nomenclature.

I’m quite sure you know.
They wanted to do away with the edition naming convention because they wanted new players to not be confused and existing players not to complain. No I do not have a source as I am not a D&D informational scholar.
Then yes, I would say they've failed on both counts.

3.0 and 3.5 were compatible enough for adventure content, which is all WotC wants put of 5.5's backward compatibility, do I still don't see the problem.
that is not all the compatibility though, old subclasses that are not in 2024 are also compatible, not just adventures

Does the new book say "2024 Revision" anywhere on it, or is that just Crawford having to differentiate it in interviews?
as I said, ask me when the book is available, at a minimum it looks nothing like the 2014 book, so as far as deceptions go this is one of the worst possible ones, it’s like they are not even trying

They want people to see it as new and the same, but it's actually new and different.

We never 'translated' D&D characters from one edition to the other. We continued until the campaign was done OR started another with the new edition.

This time around, I have no D&D active characters when a new edition comes out. Not even solo ones. First time since 1981. Weird.
