Ride-By Attacks and AoO

I've been looking over the rules trying to find an answer to this problem...

When making a Ride-By attack, does your mount provoke an Attack of Opportunity?

From PHB:
Ride-By Attack
You do not provoke an attack of opportunity.

However, this doesn't clarify that your mount doesn't and the Mounted Combat feat allows you to ignore the damage from one attack per round, on a successful ride check of course.

Has anyone seen a official word on this or do people play with their own house rules?

It seems to me that if you don't allow the AoO then the Mounted Combat feat isn't as useful. However, allowing it means that you had better have a high ranks in ride.

The Sage has gone on the record as saying that Ride-By Attack provides safety to both the rider and the mount. He's pointed to the language that says "no AOO for your movement" and noted that it is really the mount doing the movement, after all.
