Ride By vs Hold the Line.

When you exit a threatened square, you provoke an AoO. When you exit. Ride by Attack negates this AoO.
Show me where in the rules it states that Ride by Attack's description, which states "you do not provoke attacks of opportunity," is only referring to the AoO generated from exiting a threatened square, and I'll agree with you.
Hold the Line allows you to use one of your AoO's when someone charging you enters your threatened square. This is not normally an AoO, but something provided by the feat.
I understand this.
Not all movement related AoO's are created equal.

Ride By: Negates "Exiting" AoO.
HTL: Creates "Entering" AoO.
I disagree. Nowhere in the feat description does it state that Ride-By Attack only negates the AoO from exiting the threatened square. I believe I actually rule it more strict than it actually is (by still allowing AoOs if the Ride-By Attacker attempts to disarm or sunder). The text states it eliminates AoOs, period.
Two different feats, even if they were meant to do similar things. They have different mechanics. I'd suggest they be ruled seperately.
Suggest as you like. I think they were meant to fulfill the same function, so I rule them similarly. And if I didn't rule them similarly, as I've stated, I'd fall even further on the side of Ride-By Attack. The feat doesn't limit itself to the single type of AoO you mention.

I'd say, Ride-by Attack protects against AoO from movement, Hold the Line protects against charging opponents. So the pikeman in my game would get an AoO against the charging knight for entering his threatened zone but not a second AoO for the knight's movement, that's enough of a benefit for me. Besides Ride-by doesn't specify exactly what kind of AoO it protects against so I have to assume it protects only against those triggered by moving through a threatened zone and not against those triggered by other events like attacking the defender unarmed without being 'unarmed and dangerous'.
