Rifts Ultimate Edition: First impressions

Palaner

First Post
I had a thread back in July about whether to get this game. Now that I have it....

So far, I'm mixed. The sheer number of classes is excellent and the world setting seems to be well-thought out (although the main character of Erin Tarn gets tiresome after a while). On the other hand, there are only two or so pages of actual equipment information! Now they are fine weapons and miscellany, I'm sure. But how is that supposed to satisfy any players? I am told to buy more books every page I look to for more information.

I'll get back to you on combat once I've read through it.

That alone, has convinced me to immediately forget about RIFTS. Well, not that I would have been interested in it anyway... Nonetheless, let me peruse a book I might be interested in, at the FLGS, and being told that I should buy more books will immediately make me put the book back on its shelf and not look at it again for the entirety of my life (and beyond). This had to be said.

When I looked at it in the store and mentally compared it to my RIFTS bookshelf, I decided against it.

Like Turanil said, it is irksome if it does in fact prompt you to go and buy other stuff.

I'm thinking its sinking.

I think talling you where to find the info is a good thing. There are a lot of rifts books and if done right, itr could really allow people to find the books with the stuff they want in it. The FRCS does this but not so blantantly. It gives an over view of areas buyt people buy the other books to get more details on certain places.
