ring of evasion and armor

You allow characters to gain class abilities from a single wish?

Wow. I want to play in your game. I *wish* my rogue could cast spells like a 20th level wizard.

I wouldn't let a PC Wish for Evasion because Evasion is a metagame term that the PCs wouldn't know about
So how do you wish for a +5 longsword? (yes, it costs an extra 2,500xp for that wish to be granted) But "+5" is a metagame term.

Wishing for a second-level class ability is trivial. It would be like asking for Woodland Stride: hardly even feat-worthy, and certainly more colorful than wishing for a trinket. However, wishing for something a little too meaty, say, Improved Evasion, well... hang on a sec while I get this RBDM hat on ... :]

Evasion: This ring continually grants the wearer the ability to avoid damage as if she had evasion. Whenever she makes a Reflex saving throw to determine whether she takes half damage, a successful save results in no damage.

Evasion (Ex): At 2nd level and higher, a rogue can avoid even magical and unusual attacks with great agility. If she makes a successful Reflex saving throw against an attack that normally deals half damage on a successful save, she instead takes no damage. Evasion can be used only if the rogue is wearing light armor or no armor. A helpless rogue does not gain the benefit of evasion.

Looking at it, the armor restrictions are included in the class features, but not in the magic item description. Interestingly enough, neither is the prohibition against its use while helpless.

Heh, I particularly like how monks retain their Evasion even if they're wearing light armor. That's amusing.

Evasion (and many other 1st or 2nd level class abilities like the Paladin's Divine Grace or the Barbarian's Rage) is a big deal for the people who want it. Some characters go out of their way to take 1 or 2 levels in some of these classes exclusively to cherrypick those potent abilities. They are all significantly more powerful than feats, and rightly so. Arguably, if Divine Grace and Smite were both feats, there would be very little reason to play a Paladin rather than a Fighter.

That prohibition is in the general special ability description for evasion:
"a character must have room to move in order to evade. A bound character or one squeezing through an area cannot use evasion."

In the special ability description, it singles out rogues and monks:

Rogues and monks cannot use evasion in medium or heavy armor. Some creatures with the evasion ability as an innate quality do not have this limitation.
