Ring of Sustenance and Growing Up

What do you suppose the effects of someone still eating/drinking their normal amount while wearing a ring of sustenance?
  1. They would become fat because it was all excess
  2. They would stay the same
  3. other?

However - just want to point out that I didn't start this thread as a "help me prove my DM wrong" - he's made his decision and the game will run as such - no big deal. Just want to assess how other people would do it because it is a very, very interesting topic, I think. I've posted many, many threads on adventuring pregnant or attempting to raise a child as an adventurer... as a female that plays female characters that are, on occasion, sexually active, it's a very interesting aspect to role playing that is fun to explore. :)

Good for you! It sounds like you have several of the other issues in mind already. It's too bad your DM has already ruled because it seems like by the RAW, it should work (as others have said).

A magic diaper with a "clean" cantrip or something. Since magical "armor" resizes to fit the wearer, it would be one diaper fits all.

Prestidigitation: "It can color, clean, or soil items in a 1-foot cube each round." I know any wizard I play always has that one memorized, if for no other reason than that it stinks to sleep in filthy clothes. :)

Does it show that I have an 18-month old? ;)

... Kinda ... ;) Congrats on increasing the future gaming population! :D

I think these are fabulous topics...

My wandering mind hit on the idea of a new Magic Item...

Take a Ring of Sustenance, toss in some additional abilities (For statrters: Silence - to keep baby and party alive when being stalked by Dragons, and Prestidigitation - to keep baby clean etc.), and then make the Ring Intelligent, with a Neutral Good, highly devoted personality to provide some (admitedly wierd) socialization...

Now ya just need the warded and armored 'snuggly' tummy pack (based on the Familiar Pocket spell) and keep that on the character with the highest survivability...

For the personal touch, probably a good idea to hand feed the Baby at least occasionally. No Milk? Summon a Celestial Cow...

Stay the same. The ring magically checks you over each moment of each day, and queries your body: "Do you need more food / water / nourishment / Vitamin C / sleep?"

If your body says, "Nope - I'm fine, thanks," the ring waits a few more minutes.

If your body says, "You know, I'm feeling a bit scurvish today," the ring injects the exact amount of Vitamin C you need, and waits a few more minutes.

So if you're already eating enough, the ring just keeps getting "No" answers. :D

I only have this to say....

Kids in countries where they are starving do not stay a baby. Many of them barely get enought to sustain life. Those kids grow up...granted they have many health problems but they do "grow" up. I think that the ring would provide for the baby and it would grow, how it would grow is another matter, especially since the rings does not state that the wearer is malnourished or anything.
