Look, you know who showing up is all well and good, but if they want to make this show really authentic, I'm going to need a bunch of these characters to start singing historical songs a lot more. Yes, especially you on the secret mission.

This one had a very D&D adventuring-party feel, in the Galadriel and Isildur parts.

"Yes, I can recommend an archer and two swordsmen. Who else should we take with us, Commander?"

"Hmm, probably a druid if we can find one, and we could definitely use a rogue."

Also:

"Oh, so he's a great big Grandelf." They're really trolling us now.

I thought it was quite a good D&D idea. Undead that can only be killed with their own weapons.

Liked the Entwife - quite moving. Particularly knowing what happens to them.

Feel like the world building is excellent.

I'm up to Ep3, definitely liking this season better so far.

The main improvements:

1) This season so far has focused less on mystery (who is that guy, who is that other guy!) and more of watching Sauron be Sauron. And its pretty awesome to watch, how he slithers his way into things. And you also realize its not just Sauron being evil, but really unlocking the evil in others.

2) Galadriel had to eat some humble pie from teh end of the last season and its made her character much more interesting. Instead of this arrogant badass that just tromps around, we now have a character who is navigating a strained relationship with Elrond, and is dealing with the fact that she did in fact royally mess up....and now can she really trust herself and her actions/motives. there's just so much more nuance now and its great.

3) Hehe the fact the Gandalf can talk and is already starting his snarky "I'm a wizard I know best" wisdom makes those scenes just way more enjoyable.

Watching the Tom Bombadil episode last night, I was struck by just how much his costume resembled the Brothers Hildebrandt paintings from the 1970s. Does that look predate them, maybe in a Tolkien sketch or something? If not, it feels like the Hildebrandts deserve a shout-out in the credits (maybe they got one and I missed it).

I believe William Morris used to dress like that, and you can draw a line from the Arts & Crafts movement to Tolkien . I expect Hildebrants where also Arts & Crafts influenced.
