Spoilers Rings of Power is back!

My issue with that is…there is no Tolkien vision. Tolkien didn’t write the Silmarillion, it’s just an edited collaboration of notes and drafts that he had no oversight over. It’s not a book, and certainly not a book Tolkien wrote.

people are trying to pin Rings of Power to a story that doesn’t exist.
A fair position. In that case, what adaptional changes could be made that would, in your opinion, be considered unacceptable? By which I mean, would decrease your enjoyment of the series?

All there is is a story outline. There is no characterisation, no dialogue, sparse descriptions, no incidental occurrences, so the writer would have to create all that stuff from scratch. So you would get the same whining that it’s “not Tolkien”, which is absolutely true.
Have you considered not portraying the feelings and opinions of those you disagree with as, "whining"?

The three big stories do have a rather lot of dialogue and detail...but. yes, making something fillable would require creative license.

In about 19 years, it's all going to be in the public domain and then things will get for-real for-real, and go beyond merely Tolkien by a long shot.
Prepare for my long-awaited Tolkien/Conan/Cthulhu/Steamboat Willie/Felix the Cat crossover.

I'm very much not a fan of the idea that the fate of the Elves is somehow linked to mithral, or the presence of the Istari in Middle-Earth in the Second Age, or awakening the Balrog very early, or Barrow Wights when there shouldn't be any, or pretty much everything they've done with Tom Bombadill. Do any of those count?

All that being said, adoptions will make choices I don't like, and I'm there are many things I do like. Most of Numenor, how the Dwarves are portrayed, how Saucony is portrayed, the idea of Adar, the visuals are also very nice.
I wonder if the Mithril thing was an attempt to show in a more clear-cut way one of the reasons the rings are as powerful as they are.

Technically, Tolkien never said there weren't Istari in Middle-earth in the 2nd Age... ;)

Why wouldn't there be Barrow Wights lots of places?

What do you not like about how they've depicted Tom?

I might be misremembering, but I think that the series does not have the rights to the Silmarillion or other posthumous books. They can use only the appendices in LotR, IIRC.

Sounds similar to House of the dragon. There's just not that much there to hang a show on.
Purists will always get hurt about minor things. For me it major departures I care about.

I'm not a Tolkein purist. I managed go finish RoP S1 wasn't very good but I've never been able to finish LotR. Hobbit was fun but haven't seen those movies.

If the show was great like S1-4 of GoT no one would care and the hard core purists would be over whelmed like the movies. Unfair comparison but it doesn't compare that well to WoT S2 either. Ymmv.

At least it's consistent with itself and isn't all over the place with glimpses of it being good in each main story.

Personally, I like the character in the series, but I feel that he's quite different from the one in LotR. To be honest, I also feel that the original character would not transpose well to other works.

By default, yes, but because they are working with the Tolkien Estste they can get approval for Simrilion references if they can convince the Estate to OK it. Ao rheybhave managed to get some more in there.
