Rise of the Runelords vs. Curse of the Crimson Throne

Yeah I just went ahead and ordered the full set of both from Amazon, after picking up 7 and 8 for a look from my F(not so L)GS. Amazon has them all 'in stock' however haven't posted #3 so I have asked my FnsLGS if they have it. Note if you are in the US they are all available really cheap on Amazon 2nd hand and/or old stock.

Not much use to me in NZ!

Still haven't decided (with the huge ease of conversion/creation in 4E) whether to run PFRPG or 4E. Having looked through the 7 & 8 it would be easy to go 4E, mostly by joining encounter areas. Obviously making NPCs as 4E monsters also easy, probably easier than up-scaling them to PFRPG! ;)

Thanks!

Reading this made me remember I lost/misplaced PF #1 many months ago, so I decided I better go get it. Then they showed I could get the campaign setting for under $32 and get free shipping, so I did that too.

So thanks for being the catalyst to get me to go looking!

No probs, the Paizo APs are a large step up from the generic H1 to E3 modules that I have run so far... guess where the next plot progression information is... an another incriminating letter in the recently deceased bad guys pocket/chest ++rolleyes++

Yeah, I played through the first 3 WOTC modules and part of a 4th, I wasn't impressed enough to buy them. However I am getting great stuff from Goodman, and then of course there is PAizo.

Two comments.

1) People have been running the AP's with the beta rules with little to no changes needed.

2) If you go 4e there is some people that have been doing some 4e coversion of the AP's on the Paizo boards. I honestly have no clue which ones they have done or how good they are. But you might want to check it out. If nothing else it should save you some time to convert them and or let you talk to others who share the same goals. People you can bounce idea's off ect.

I'm running RotR using the PFRPG beta and we're loving it. Great mix of episodic, chapter-based story with travel and locations to add a sense of movement and freshness along with sandboxy elements.

No experience of the other APs I'm afraid.

I run the conversion blog for the Rise of the Runelords AP. It's progressing quite nicely, and there are compiled PDF documents of conversion notes put together that are designed to mirror the adventures themselves to make running in 4th Edition easier.

Since I began the project, a couple of others have tried their hands at converting Curse of the Crimson Throne and Legacy of Fire. Both projects are in their infancy (started within the last month or two), but I hope they stick with it.

Yeah the conversions are looking real good, bookmarked already. When I have finished the WotC module series I will seriously look at those, for the moment I have a few months yet.
BTW I was joking about the ease of converting to PFRPG, thus the ;)

I'd like to chime in with a bit of support for what sounds like your decision to go with Curse of the Crimson Throne. For starters, hard copies of many of the Rise of the Runelords volumes are completely out of print. Many CotCT volumes are about to enter this status, so your timing couldn't be better.
Luckily, my local store has hard copies of all the volumes of both APs still. However, I didn't buy either, as it turned out. I had all the volumes of Curse literally in my hand, and I added up the $ amount. Then I decided that I wanted new books, and that before I committed to that kind of expense, I'd make another concerted effort to read the pdfs I already have. I bought the Paizo multiverse book, the Katapesh book, the Taldor book and... I forget what else. Another book or two also.
