Riverworld

I think it came out last year, but I finally got around to seeing this on cable last night ( Sci-fi channel ).

Not terribly bad. It had it's good moments, although it was very formulaic.

Anyway, it looked as if it was being set up to be a weekly show, but I guess that never caught on. Or did it? Anyone know if this will become a series?

The lead ( Brad Johnson ?) looks like a younger Tom Berringer eh?

For those who hav enever heard of the show: Everyone who has ever died on earth awakens underwater, naked! After swimming to shore with a group of others that are just as confused as you, you find a steel cansister with some clothes in it ( thanks! ) Next thing you know, you are introducing yourself to people from different eras of history. And then fighting them.

There is also a mysterious cabal of hooded beings who seem to be orchestrating the whole operation, but remain unseen to most ( but not our hero ).

Good concept for a D&D Campaign actually....

I recorded it, but have not had time to watch it yet. Saw the opening (first 15 minutes or so), and I'm interested enough not to delete it. I would watch it tonight, but gaming comes first tonight (after 11 weeks off--ouch!).

The lead actually reminded me of the guy from Farscape a bit, too. Ben Browder, or whatever his name is.

FWIW if you are a fan of the books, don't get your hopes up regarding the sci-fi channel adaptation.

There are worse ways to kill a couple of hours, but as a homage to Feist's story, it sucked. Hard.

I bought a bunch of the books, but never managed to read them. So, now I'll start with the movie and then read the books, going, "Boy, that movie sucked compared to this!" the whole time.....

Given that it was not an homage to Feist's story (which is Riftwar), but to Philip José Farmer (Riverworld), no wonder you thought it sucked.

Me, I thought it was great, and fairly close to the first couple of books.

Actually I meant Peter Jarius Frigate. :p

Typos aside it sucked entirely on it's own merits.

What exactly was close? The abundant metal items? The horses? The t-shirts?
The trendy inclusion of a contemporary astronaut as the main character? (Heck why not make him a Navy SEAL, Micheal Biehn isn't doing much these days.) The already existing Xena warlord camp on resurrection day?

The Riverworld movie was little more than Mad Max on water.

Well, I've never read any of the Riverworld books, so my opinion is based entirely on the movie on its own merits.

I thought it was poorly written, poorly acted, cliched, and mind-numbingly boring. In essence, I wasted two hours of my life.

IMO, of course. But honestly, if it was meant as a pilot for a series, I can only hope it doesn't get picked up. I don't want to see any more of this, since I'd rather see the time slot go to something with more worth and potential. (Not that Sci-Fi is known for making great series, a few notable exceptions aside. But a guy can dream, right?)
