Rod of Wonder - any experiences?

I was just reading the DMG, and noticed the Rod of Wonder. This looks kinda fun, but I was wondering if any one had used one. Anything I need to look out for?

Well, they were even more fun in 1E, when Lightning Bolts bounced and Fireballs filled a certain volume... :D

You know, maybe I should add that to the 3E Rod of Wonder my group has.

37-46: Lightning Bolt, as the spell, except...
70-79: Fireball at target, as the spell, except...

I havent' used it, but IMHO random effects can be funny but players tend to avoid using unpredictable items, especially if they can have negative effects on the user.

Don't remember the Rod, but for example I would NEVER make my PC draw a card from the Deck of Many Things unless he knows for sure he is dying soon and nothing can save him ;) .

Back when they were wands, I used 'em all the time. Haven't had much occasion to use the rod type in 3e, but wands of wonder were tons of fun.

We used them all the time back in 1e (leastways, wizards who had them used them all the time until the charges ran out!). The're just too much fun!
