Hasbro? 2000? What was he doing for Hasbro in 2000? I thought Hasbro acquired WotC a few years later.

In actual fact, they didn't.

Wizards acquired TSR in about 1997.
Hasbro acquired Avalon Hill in 1998
Hasbro acquired Wizards in 1999

Cheers!

Nope; it was 1999. Just double-checked on the WotC web site (on the "About Us" page).

Ah, yes I remember those dark days. I had JUST opened my gaming store in 1997, and suddenly you could not get ANY TSR product at all. That lasted for a few months I think then Wizards bought TSR and started shipping product again.

I credit Wizards with saving my store (at least for the year and a half I had it :) ) and MAGIC for keeping it going.

Anyway, sorry to go off the track. I have a lot of old Dragon mags and always enjoyed R.E.M's work. It's a shame he's left the fold, but I can understand him not wanting to chat too much as he seems to have put gaming behind him. He was very gracious in those e-mails, so I'll not harbor ill will against him for not wanting to post on a message board.

I was gonna jump to Roger's defense, but I see PC beat me to it. :)

Instead, I'll just say that I really enjoyed his work, and I hope that whatever he's up to these days is making him happy- and, hopefully, a bit more wealthy than the gaming biz did.

But for declining to offer much of anything substantial to interested fans - I'd call him a jerk - and there it is.

::Response edited to avoid adding stress to moderators, but suffice it to say I agree with Piratecat on how much Roger "owes" anyone.

I hope that limited contact puts a little sliver of interest back in Roger, and that maybe he might check into rpg's again... and see how much he is missed.

His articles on races really formed my understanding of the core races. I would love to see his input on some topics.

Did he also do Mystara work? I think it was Roger that did some articles on Rakasta, Lupins and Tortles, for example, but I may be misremembering (mid-to-late-90s). I loved that stuff, and if it was him, I am remembering this from my time on the old TSR messageboards...
