To be honest, I didn't think that my venture Rogue Playing Games registered as any sort of visible blip on the d20 radar screen to warrant anyone asking about it's disappearance. So, I thought it would just slip quietly off into obscurity without anyone noticing. Well, since it's demise has been noticed I shall address it.
The reason I created Rogue Playing Games was because I have a passion for role playing games and creating material for RPGs. Once I started to set everything up for the Rogue Playing Games imprint I discovered I had less and less time to the writing and creating that sparked it all in the first place. Trying to manage a coral of artists alone was extremely time consuming. Assuring that everything was on the up and up legal-wise was another concern that could not be overlooked. The managing completely overshadowed the creating. When I thought of taking shortcuts on the managing issues in order to create again, I realized that this was not the option for me.
I do not look at the experience as a disappointment. I see it as an assurance. Like many other d20 enthusiasts out there I had the nagging notion that I could start a kick-ass RPG publisher. Then I learned that I wanted to write and create and not manage. So, with my goals realigned I will be able to actually do what I want - create. There are plenty of other folks out there that can handle the publishing side of things. I'll do what I'm good at, and let them do what their good at.
Some other factors also came into play regarding the decision to pull the plug on Rogue Playing Games. The foremost is that another creative endeavor of mine has managed to come along nicely and I will be publishing my first comic book this summer. This project deserved more attention than was allowed when I was trying to run an RPG imprint.
So, the products that were scheduled to be released through Rogue Playing Games may still very well see the light of day. But, it'll be through a different publisher. My thanks to anyone who expressed their interest and/or concern. I'll see you around.
Peace…
