Rogue sneak attack and light armor

sneak attack

I have seen quite a few rogues who started above 1st level go for a mithrael breatplate as its the best "light armor" most could find. they could wear the heavy stuff most just are not willing to take to movement hit.

It's not just the movement hit. I'm running a rogue and I never wear heavy armor (or even medium) because of the reduction in certain skills.

Although, since I'm the only one in light armor, it is nice to be able to run away and leave the rest of the party to serve as my rear guard, whether they want to or not!:D

Exactly. The mithral chain shirt is the rogue's best armor, especially when heavily enchanted. High Dex max, no AC penalty, no speed penalty, you keep your evasion, and, if you've gone for arcane trickster, has a low, low spell failure chance. Of course, it needs enchanting, and ghost touch will help significantly against those nasty undead.

I agree with you here.

My character, although mainly a meeler, has a few rogue classes. As a result, I didn't want to take a hit to my rogue abilities, so I have been mostly been wearing mithril chain shirts. I think I've went through around 3 (unenchanted) of them so far.

However, since we have reached higher levels I've temporarily retired my unenchanted mithril shirt for a +3 chain shirt for the added AC, with the only penalty being the extra weight and the -1 to some skills. I would love to find an enchanted mithril shirt, but in our campaign, it is very rare and hard to find. At least, so far.

Thank you for all the posts! I really do appreciate them.

This question came to me when I was looking over one of my characters who is a 12th level Fighter and a 2nd level rogue. He wears a chain shirt for the movement qulaity of the armor, and nothing more. I really picture him as a big green half orc whirlwind of pick and warhammer. But, I was looking at possibly addressing his AC by giving him a heavy armor with a better bonus. Then the question hit me.

I mean before a template was placed upon him (Home made template by Kreynolds) he was a waling slaughter house. With the items he carried being put to very good use. I just thought that if he was allowed to gain the SA ability with the heavier armor that he would just be too darn tough. My opinion, though.
