Rogues and XP

Yea, if you start going down that road it's like, "but the rouge didn't help at all against that golem, and it's cr is lots higher than some measly traps" and, "it was my diplomacy check that got us this job in the first place, so I deserve my share of the xp". Of course, some DMs might LIKE keeping track of every little thing each player does and awarding xp for each individual task...

Awarding group xp just streamlines the process and eliminates a point of contention amoung the players, I do group challenge xp and tack on bonuses for "cool stuf" that makes the game more fun for everyone.

I tried to convince my DM to give me extra XP every time I fail to disarm a trap by 5 or more. ;)

Traps have CR and you get XP for finding and disarming or finding and bypassing them. Who gets the XP? Is it just the rogue?

There's no indivdual Xp, the whole party gets them. It also works this way if the Barbarian just walks through the trap ;)

I might give the rogue sole XP if the rest of the party sent him in to scout out a place all by himself, and he practically had a solo mini-adventure because of it.

Split among the entire party. It is, IMO, one of the best things about 3/3.5, emphasis on the group as a whole and not on competing with each other in order to gain more exp.

Hi!

This is not really a hick-jack attempt, but....

... reading the Sage Advice from DRAGON # 326, I got a little confused. Andy Collins wrote: "A trap is overcome either by disarming it - which gives XP to the whole group, not just the character responsible for disarming it [I second that statement] - or simply for setting it off and suffering its effects, for which no XP is awarded. [If that's the new way, I like it.]"

Kind regards
