The 'Way of ...' Booksd make an excellent read, even if they are out of date. And you should be able to find some used, which reduces the price quite a bit.

I don't have the Otasan-Uchi set but I have the one for Ryoko Owari and it's very good. It also travels well from the Clan Wars period of L5R to the current timeline.

Way of the Ninja is highly recommended. Not only does it have all sorts of Ninja information, but it has information on other sneaky groups as well as on the people who hunt Ninja.
