Role playing and Party Harmony

1. Thank you for the responses
2. The NPC who died was the Mentor of the NPC that was hired. The party is very Neutral in general. Max was offered a fair share of the treasure as part of his negotiationwith the party. His Mentor offered to come to help stop a war I.E. the N-G thing to do. The defacto treasure guy was not aware of the other party member's agreement with max. He also happens to be a greedy N-G dwarf. When it all shook out it was offered as: You may have your fallen mentor's stuff as your cut or we are gonna put it into the pot to sell to the Bocobian church. Then He could try and trade his mentor's stuff for his own stuff. He wants his cut and wants to bury his mentor with her stuff. They say that they can't let the stuff be buried unless its his cut because it would be graverobbed.

Is that where they got their gear from? ;)

Is grave robbing such a problem in the campaign? Also, why would grave robbers care if it was Max's payment or not :p.
I find that argument very weak (basically trying to screw over Max, and the mentor), and seems to be a method of keeping more $$ for themselves.

Personally, what I'd do is (similar to what I said before), have Max grumble about the options, accept the mentor's stuff as his cut and leave. Then inform the Boccobian church of the situation. where you want to take it from there is up to you

I'll make another  comment.
If the group are calling the mentor's gear as part of the loot they have gained from adventuring in the dungeon, then some questions need to be asked about whether the group contributed to the mentor's demise.
