Roleplaying a LG Changeling Thief/Cleric/Shadowbane Stalker

Greeting everyone! I am playing what I consider an interesting and difficult character and I want to make sure that I am on the right track for Lawful Good - a fringe Lawful Good most likely, but Lawful Good none-the-less. The character is a LG Changeling Ro going for Ro 3/Cl 2/ Shadowbane Stalker. His history, Ideology, and some notes follow to help you with where I am going with it. He is a member of a Sect of the Silver Flame who trains Shadowbane Stalkers, and was working as a Lay Priest of the Sovereign Host in Northern Aundair near Stormhome. Good references are the Races of Eberron for Changeling mentality.

I am hoping that this will not degrade into exactly what it means to be lawful good, but I am afraid that this might need to be discussed. I am not a paladin nor do I aspire to be one.

Thanks y'all. ;)

Character History
Shortly after I was born I was left on the door step of a small Sovereign Host church in Vinsten and the on-duty lay priest (Friar Corbin Carrith, H, Expert) worked as an agent for a very small sect within the Silver Flame called the Heart of the Flame. He took me in as his own son, raising me as a loving but stern father. Every summer we went and did some 'missionary work' where we would meet up with 4 or 5 other children and we would play games and learn from all of our mentors all in preparation for carrying on in their stead, but his is not something that we knew. During these times we would go to a nearby village and help out; sometimes with the others, and sometimes on our own. Be in the end there would be a mission that we needed to accomplish with our new skills.

During the Last War I spent most of my time along with the members of our church helping the community to defend itself from the predations of Sahuaguin and Karn forces. My father had me concentrate on detailing officers and spell casters. I spent a lot of my time sticking up for the locals and when the situation allowed I killed a few soldiers of my own. Violence is not always the answer, but it is sometimes necessary. Our small village has gone through a lot of rebuilding in the 2 years following the Treaty of Thronehold. We have worked hard to rebuild our small village and to establish our self-sufficiency and sense of community. There is still a sense of tenseness with the expectation that something bad is going to happed, but that is going away slowly.

I long for a kinder and gentler Flame and believe that I can better serve the Flame by embracing the more subtle side of the Silver Flame. I wonder what happened to the other children and my other mentors. My father and I have stopped going on our joint pilgrimages. I have been told, and have done so, that I am able to do missionary work and pilgrimages my self now. I am ready. I have heard of this Heart of the Flame and I am not to speak of it. Someday I will understand.

The war brought much death and sadness to many innocent people. I have watched as babies, women and the elderly have been cut down for just being there. Not caring about the war and not wanting to have anything to do with it. I have seen homes and lives destroyed while tending to this town. War has naught but brown pain and sorrow upon the common men and women of Khorvaire and that is a tragedy.

Ideology
Laws, tradition, and etiquette are in place to protect, guide, and benefit the common man and the use of such to trap those who do wrong is well meaning and appropriate as the common man may not have the strength or knowledge to do so in their own defense. I am gifted with the knowledge and ability to protect the weak from oppressors and enslavers and those with a malign will.

I am honest and forthright to those who that I deem are as well. Once it has been determined that someone bears ill will and intent the gloves come off as they must understand in the golden rule - 'The Flame of truth may cleanse as well as burn.'.

The standard Flame priests and zealous paladins of the faith server their purpose well, but sometimes a gentler more subtle hand is needed to serve the faith and the peoples of Khorvaire better. Honesty and truth can sometimes cut and wound deeper that any sword or spell.

I teach the Flame's wisdom as told from the perspective of the Sovereign Host. The truth of the Flame an be found in the wisdom and teachings of the Host. I believe in the Host and their existence and in the truths that they espouse.

What you show to the world is not necessarily the truth that is in your heart. What you show to others and what you feel and believe may not be the same.

Lawful Good, "Crusader"
A lawful good character acts as a good person is expected or required to act. She combines a commitment to oppose evil with the discipline to fight relentlessly. She tells the truth, keeps her word, helps those in need, and speaks out against injustice. A lawful good character hates to see the guilty go unpunished.
Lawful good is the best alignment you can be because it combines honor and compassion.

Surely there must be some comment or suggestion?
Bueller, Bueller? Anyone?
I can not have hit it one the head.

Fess up. You just wanted to tell us about your character, right? :)

My only issue is that the Order of Illumination is a more conservative and hard-line group. The "kinder, gentler" Flamist ideology doesn't really fit in well with the motivations of the Order. Other than that, go for it! I'm playing a shifter Shadowbane Inquisitor right now, and I'm enjoying it.

I am looking for role playing tips, ideas, or even justifications (sneaky Lawful Good can be hard to rectify in the mind). I am afraid that when the DM type may start to think of it the Paladin Lawful-Stupid will come into play. Some validation that my logic works as well, would be nice.

We are pretty much dropping the class' flavor text and are using the class for a new Sect of the Silver Flame.

GwydapLlew: are you having any DM issues or questions with the Lawful Good sneaky? How are you rationalizing it?

Well, I'm playing an Inquisitor, so I'm the muscle-half. I'm actually finding it harder to be LG and an Inquisitor than the Stalker is at playing Lawful-Sneaky. Basically, consider it this way:

-You aren't breaking laws.
-You aren't a paladin, so the whole 'honorable combat' shtick doesn't apply.
-You are using your powers to root out evil.

That seems to be helping us in our game. :)

Not breaking laws, at least the laws that matter to agents of the Flame, and to the non-corrupted masses we are a honorable friend that is guiding them along the path of righteousness.

Merciless and undaunted to the corrupted, and compassionate and generous to the masses.

To the corrupted we are a reason to fear the dark for we are the Shadow of the Flame that shall purify corruption that shirks from the light of righteousness.

I was little bit afraid of trying the Sneaky Paladin for having to justify it. What moral or ethical issues are you running into and what are your resolutions.
