Roll Up a Life Path

Original CP2020 Lifepath

The Life Path found in Mekton Zeta and Cyberpunk2020 were created by R. Talsorian Games. They later created a free (open?), generic RPG system called Fuzion and placed the Life Path under that license. There was a generic version over at Atomik Fuzion.

Apparently the site owner sold his rights and the rules can now only be found on fan sites around the net. Found a copy here:

A friend of mine made this really cool lifepath generator for a Trav-inspired scifi game.

The thing that's nice about Lifepath systems is that they, ideally, really inspire you to sew together events.

For example, my main character was a scientist, so I was rolling to get into a good school (had to spend a few of the metapoints to get into a good school vs. state school!) and then worked my way up. The fact I had to spend metapoints to get into the good school was, clearly, my family pulling strings to 'qualify' me.

It was fun, toward the end; I was rolling trying to get my dissertation completed.

One year, I came up with 'military bureaucracy' as a skill. Huh. So I had my character working in a military project, which fit into the background in several cool ways.

Next year, Gaming. I figured my character failed to get his dissertation completed because he kept playing RPGs... and then, the very next year, success! I decided one of the people on the thesis committee was one of his gaming buddies.

None of which would have occurred to me if I was just sitting, making a character background.

Roll, roll, roll. "adopted son of a farmer"
Roll, roll, roll. "local girl love interest"
Roll, roll, roll. "destined to go mad and wreck the world?" WTF?

roll roll roll, "Let's see, country gentleman, lives in a burrow house in a quiet farming community, enjoys tobacco and many meals, friends with a wizard."

Is that (or any other lifepath system) available somewhere online?

Check out this thread: http://www.enworld.org/showthread.php?t=214131
for further links.

Edit: Copying my links over:

For D&D i sometimes use the Character Background tables from Unearthed Arcana.

Some googling and reading Enworld's
Lifepath thread1
Lifepath thread2

...revealed these:
Character Lifepath on dandwiki
Atomik Lifepath pdf
Lifepath (very interesting, the navigation is a bit strange but this is the most complex system i have found yet, aside from Central Casting.)

There's also the fairly recent Background Noise pdf by Second Rat Games
