D&D 5E Rolling a 20 always hits

Personally, though, I think they're wise to ditch that bit, as it was just a nuisance. The benefit of being able to jump straight to the crit outweighs the drawback, IMO. YMMV, of course. :)

Agree 100%. It was an improvement on 3.XE's complicated "crit check" deal (ugh another dice roll!), but better still to cut to the chase!

(Of course I don't like 5E's "double dice" crits much, but that's another story, you win some, you lose some, I guess!)
