Rolling Thunder (ArcP, Wiz Daily 1): explain it to me

How does this power work?

Are the Thunderballs stationary, or do they move with the targets when sustained?

Since you slide the targets as part of the spell (hit or miss), how are they expected to suffer the Opportunity Attack?

The thunderball creation effect comes after the slide (either the hit or the miss) in the description. Per the PHB2, this means they're supposed to happen in that order, so the thunderballs appear in the targets' spaces at that point, not the ones they originally occupied.

The power gives no way to move them, so they don't move. They become one-square "traps" for you to slide things into. Our L2 lightning/thunder wizard literally has no attack powers (other than the daily she can't have if she's casting Rolling Thunder) which don't push or slide targets, so she's quite fond of RT.

So, they are stationary? Blah... does not seem like the thunder does a lot of "rolling" if that is the case... :hmm:

Ah, thanks. That makes sense.

Emphatically agree.

I imagined the spell as conjuring the Thunderballs where the targets start and then pushing ('rolling') them the 3 squares or whatever and come to a rest. Attacking once more when the creatures move out.

Seems to be the idea of the fluff, and RAW just simplified it to avoid confusion.

I feel old.

You guys dont know what the term "rolling thunder" means, do you?

A march by Fillmore?

Sorry, couldn't resist being flippant. :p

I assume you're referencing the operation in Vietnam, but I'm pretty sure the term "rolling thunder" has been around quite a bit longer than that. Regardless, I'm not sure either definition (or the march) aptly describe the actual ability.
